There is alot about this affiliate marketing I dont get. But here is my story.
I have a website called caesarcigars.com - Cigars. At this point I am about 90% done with it and when I am I planned on using a few different affilaites (Dimeline Sportsbook, a cigarette affiliate, etc.) I do an OK business right now but I wanna grow. Right now for marketing I have been using a service called onmycity.com. Its a great service and does it helps me rank. Cigars from Caesarscigars.com As you see I have ads on my blogs. My plan of action for my cigars site is to keep postong on onmycity and writing cigar reviews with Wordpress, and Hubpages. And next month I am going to try out Google Adwords with a $400.00 budget for the month. Now I was on a different form about a month back and they all said find I niche you like. Well I like certain Tv shows. So I setup some accounts on hubpages and wordpress. Below is some links to artcles I posted. Tim Brown - Hot Hubs The Entertainment Caesar So here are my questions. What more can I do to get more people to my cigar site???? If I keep doing what I am doing do you think it will payoff??? Am I on the right path??? What aspects of this business am I missing???? Any help would be great. Thanks |

I think you're going to have a hard time of it no matter what. As much as I enjoy a good Havanna smoke, a lot of people are quitting tobacco altogether, as it is a particularly damaging substance. You'realso getting more and more regulations on it, as governments desperately try to claw more tax money out of the diminishing returns on tobacco, as there are fewer customers.
This may seem odd, but consider hitting up the Chinese. I watched a documentary the other week that was explaining how the toacco companies are making a huge move to China as people are now having disposabe income to spend on what are percieved as luxury goods over there, and the tobacco take up rate is massive at the moment. The figure in te show was something like 50:1000

I live in the UK, and the wonderful smoking ban came in last summer. I agree smoking is bad, but I don’t think anyone can disagree that 'Smoking does make you look cool' it’s a fact!
Maybe due to all the previous media and movies, but the same applies to certain drugs thanks to the wonderful world of films (Pulp Fiction for example). Since the ban came in, I have found allot of people have quit smoking. It has reduced the amount I smoke, but it also has had a knock on effect. Some of the most interesting or fun people I know smoke, they go outside for a smoke...others follow as they don’t want to be left inside. Smokers are a dying breed (in more ways than one!) but alcohol is bad and binge drinking is on the increase. People are inclined to do things they shouldn’t, as it often brings other complimentary enjoyment. I wouldn’t discount this market; you just may have to target it with the above comments in mind. |

Fantastic suggestion. Personally don't like the ethics of it, but from a commercial point of view it's fantastic. China's tobacco market is huge. Largely because of the education level, it seems, but that sets up a culture that even the educated care about.
my rep's too low to make much/any difference to yours, but +rep |

Well, ethics are each to their own...
Personally I wouldn't do it. Smoking is a poison, but so are a lot of enjoyable things. I do them, but I discourage others from doing them because I know what I'm doing is stupid. It's up to caesercigars to do what he wants with what I suggested. Thanks for the attempted rep plusing though

I'm a smoker whose sick of smoking and having a hard time quitting but it's really a nasty habit in so many ways. I went to the gas station today and when I was parking, the guy in the car next to me was smoking and I honestly though "how uncool" it looked and wondered if I looked just as "uncool" smoking, ick! But I still think there is a good market for cigars here and abroad. |

Cigars are smoked less for need and more for enjoyment. People who have been smoking cigars don't suddenly go "Oh god, tobacco causes cancer, I better stop now." However, I do dig the idea of promoting your tobacco products abroad, because I too have heard that a lot of people smoke over there now, similiar to the US in the 50's. As long as it didn't take a month to get them their product, I would do that.. develop a site written in Mandarin for more results.
But aside from being the king online cigar-supplier to the billions of Chinese cigar-smoking Mcdonalds-eating people, I would stick with the plan of spending some money on PPC, using all the basic PPC tactics and trying to out-do your competitors as much as you can. |
