Good Bye to Endometriosis with Laparoscopy
Laparoscopy is the ultimate and one of the best treatments for Endometriosis and I realized this only when this treatment was given to a woman who was suffering from severe inflammation and pain spread almost all over the pelvis. My classmates I and where all present and keenly observing the procedure performed by our chief laparoscopic surgeon. Endometriosis is a condition in which endometrial cells grow abnormally where they are not required. This condition becomes even more complex in women as these cells start swelling with blood just before menstrual cycles and start bleeding around. The unavailability of space for the blood to escape causes pain and inflammation.
There are a number of methods to treat Endometriosis but Laparoscopy is considered to be the best approach to treat this condition as using this methodology, you would even be able to diagnose how severely the patient has been affected by the disease. While analyzing the patient, our professor did also tell us about the various stages of the disease along with explanations on how they can be treated. One more important point our professor did mention was about the symptoms to be noticed in this condition. Usually, in this case, the symptoms which are noticed in women are terrible pain in the hip and back area before menstrual cycles. Once noticed, the patient should be treated at the earliest as the growth of these cells would proceed to the next stage giving chances for these abnormal cells to grow further. The final stage of the condition would completely have the abnormal cells implanted in the pelvic area affecting fertility. But this doesn’t mean that the patient affected by endometrial cells would not be able to reproduce. Laparoscopy surgery would treat the condition effectively and would increase the chances of the patient regaining her fertility.
Being a female gynecologist, I paid extra attention to this session at Laparoscopy Hospital. As pregnancy something feminine and a phase something that every woman loves to go through, laparoscopic ablation of endometriosis and sometime resection of its deep nodule is really a useful treatment for women. The session was handled perfectly by our professor and he had satisfactory answers for all our questions and doubts, through his vast experience. He was even able to anticipate our questions or he himself raised few questions and answered it for us. This one of the many things that I like about Laparoscopy Hospital, they have highly experienced faculty. He also did mention that this surgery should be considered and handled with extra care as we would be handling the reproductive organ itself. Even a minor mistake can have adverse effects on the patient. This is one of the reasons why the medical accessories which are used in treating the condition are less invasive.
Effective diagnosis for endometriosis can be done perfectly and completely by using Laparoscopy. The surgery would also almost clear off all the tissues which are infected. Even if few tissues were to be left out, the condition should be treated after the surgery through oral medicines (Hormonal therapy). Although cure of endometriosis is not guaranteed even after surgery, laparoscopy should be considered as gold standard. As the surgery is painless, quick and effective, laparoscopy is considered to be one of the best methods to treat endometriosis.

I am convienced with the role of laparoscopy in endometriosis. One of the biggest problem of endometriosis is the chances of recurrence is very high and in this case sometime re-operation is required. If the treatment is done by laparoscopy atleast there will be less invasion. Several different hypotheses have been put forward in the textbook as to what causes endometriosis. Unfortunately, none of these theories have ever been entirely proven to find out cause of endometriosis, nor do they fully explain all the mechanisms associated with the development of the disease. Thus, the cause of endometriosis remains unknown even after many research.
Most researchers of endometriosis, however, agree that endometriosis is exacerbated by oestrogen. Subsequently, most of the current treatments for endometriosis attempt to temper oestrogen production in a woman’s body in order to relieve her of symptoms. At the moment there are no treatments, which fully cure endometriosis. However laparoscopy has some hope.
Several theories have become more accepted, and reality is that it may be a combination of factors, which make some women develop endometriosis. Doing D&C during menses or tubo-ovarian fistula is also one of the factor leading to endometriosis.
